Greg Simmons (confirmed)
Technical Director
Elektromotive

Greg Simmons

Elektromotive is the world’s leading provider of recharging stations for electric vehicles. The company’s main product is the Elektrobay, which can be installed at the kerbside or in multi-storey car parks.

Elektromotive works with governments and local authorities to provide Elektrobays and engineering consultancy services to help accelerate a shift towards emissions-free motoring. Founded in 2003, Elektromotive has grown very rapidly to become the clear leader in its field – no other company in the world is at such an advanced stage in the development and deployment of recharging stations for electric vehicles.

The simple-to-operate Elektrobay was first introduced in Westminster, London, in 2006, and by May 2009 nearly 100 units will be installed across the UK capital. A further 40 Elektrobay charging stations operate in cities and shopping centres around the UK. At present, the electricity supplied through all UK Elektrobays is provided to the consumer free-of-charge

Building on its success in the UK, Elektromotive is now seeing very significant growth in its export activity. The company is currently working with national and local governments in Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany and Ireland to roll-out the recharging infrastructures that will help accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles.

Elektromotive’s small team is based in Brighton, on the south east coast of England. Birthplace to company Managing Director, Calvey Taylor- Haw, Brighton is also home to suppliers of Elektrobay’s hardware and electronic components.

In February 2009, Elektromotive signed a memorandum of understanding with the Renault-Nissan Alliance to accelerate the installation of charging networks for electric vehicles in European cities. Both parties will study ways to promote the use of electric vehicles, and will share information on electric vehicle development and energy supply on a global scale.

For two consecutive years Elektromotive’s contribution to eco-friendly motoring has been acknowledged by The Green Fleet Awards. In 2007 and 2008 the company was presented the prize for ‘Industry Innovation.’
